Overall volume dropped as 96 contracts of 5 percent white rice changed hands, down from Friday's 215. The November contract settled at 10.92 baht per kg, down from 10.98 baht, with 27 contracts traded.
No November contract was traded on Friday. "Today is the last trading day for the November contract so players offset the contract despite losses as they did not want to deliver the goods," said one broker. However, the deferred February contract rose to 11.20 baht per kg from 11.16 baht, with 27 contracts traded, down from 74.
Small investors took speculative positions on deferred contracts, as they were cheap, giving them room to take a profit when prices rose, brokers said.
On the physical front, Thai 5 percent white rice was steady at 10.80 baht per kg.
